Slide 1
This short module on ProQuest Dialog™ illustrates a number of features in ProQuest Dialog's latest release on April 25, 2011. We'll conduct a short search in the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical databases using Advanced Search on treatment for adolescents with epilepsy.
Slide 2
Login to ProQuest Dialog. You will see a listing of nine search industries, along with all the databases in each category. Scroll down to the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical category and click Search.
Slide 3
In the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical category, click Advanced and select Advanced Search at the top of the screen. You can also click Advanced Search under the search box.
Slide 4
If you plan to search individual databases, you can see the pricing link under the database name. Click Pricing to see pricing for each document format.
Slide 5
On the Advanced Search screen enter your first term epilepsy. As you type in your term, a dropdown list of possible terms displays. You can click any of these terms or continue typing the term you want. From the dropdown box, limit to all subject
headings SU.
Slide 6
Enter additional terms in row 2 and 3. Note the asterisk after adolescen or teen to get all forms of the words. Then click the dropdown box and limit to the last 12 months and click Search.
Slide 7
Review the displayed results list. Your search strategy is shown in the search box at the top of the page. Check any records you want to hold for further review, in this example record 1. Note 1 selected item is indicated. There are a number of options to view records. In this example you can preview the record or select from the format types at the bottom of the record. Click the pricing link to see different formats and cost.
Slide 8
Click Brief Citation. The display options for record 5 from the Embase® database are listed along with pricing for each format.
Slide 9
The brief citation contains title, authors, publication and more. You can also click the links for publication title, volume and issue to see more articles in this issue of Epilepsy Research. At the top of the screen note the record has been added to Selected items and also saved in My Research.
Slide 10
Returning to the results page, we can see three selected items now at the top of the screen because we clicked records 5 and 6 before viewing the Brief Citation.
Slide 11
We'll look next at Citation/Abstract so click Citation/Abstract. A pricing screen gives the charge. Click continue to see the Citation/Abstract format you chose.
Slide 12
The Citation/Abstract provides the citation, abstract, and indexing.
Slide 13
Other formats including PDF are available in other databases as shown here.
Slide 14
You can set up an Alert using a search strategy you think will provide records on a topic you need in the future. Fill out the Alert form including the name of the alert, your alert email address, and the number of documents you want and how often you want the Alert delivered. Check the Alert profile and then click create Alert.
Slide 15
You can also set up an RSS feed. Complete the RSS form and click Create feed.
Slide 16
You can save any of your documents and search strategies to My Research. Create an account and sign in with your user name and password when you want to save, manage or manipulate records. Click the Save to My research and you will see that it has been saved. You can also Export records to a post-processing program. Just click Export.
Slide 17
From the drop-down menu select the format you want to export.
Slide 18
Select where you want to export the record, in this example to RefWorks. Pricing is given before the record is exported into RefWorks.
Slide 19
In this module we have reviewed a number of features as we conducted our search including category listings, multiple database searching with a number of different terms, saving selected records and strategies throughout a search, viewing
transactional pricing, selecting different formats, setting up Alerts and RSS feeds and exporting to RefWorks.
