As General Manager, Suzanne BeDell leads Dialog's global operations. She was appointed in July 2008, when Dialog became part of the ProQuest family. Prior to joining Dialog, Suzanne was Senior Vice President of Publishing, where she managed ProQuest's Higher Education Publishing area. She joined ProQuest in 2001 as Vice President and Publisher and played instrumental roles in the acquisition of Serials Solutions, the expansion of Chadwyck-Healey's publishing program, and the development of such critically-acclaimed products as Black Studies Center and ProQuest Central, the world's largest aggregated full-text database. Before ProQuest, Suzanne was Senior Vice President of Internet Products at Thomson Healthcare and Director of Electronic Product Development for Mosby, Inc., a Times-Mirror Company. She also held the role of Publisher at Mosby and launched Mosby's GenRx (now Mosby's Drug Consult), one of the first web-based applications produced by a medical publisher. Suzanne also held a variety of positions in McGraw-Hill's College Division, including as Publisher for Primis, the first electronic custom publishing system in Higher Education. Suzanne holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Drake University. She maintains offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Morrisville, North Carolina.
Lynn Christie sets strategy and development for all Dialog products. Lynn's information industry roots are deep. Before joining Dialog, Lynn was Director of Publisher Relations for Ovid Technologies, part of Wolters Kluwer Health. Previous to that, she was Vice President for Business Development for the Foundation Center, where she developed two new online products that help non-profits identify and solicit funding from foundations. Lynn was also Senior Director, Electronic Products for Thomson Healthcare and Vice President and Managing Director for FIND/SVP (now Guideline), where she managed the publishing division. She was Vice President and Publisher for Frost & Sullivan, the leading publisher of market research reports worldwide. Lynn graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in History from Colorado College. She is based in London.
Julie Janusz leads the Technology team for all Dialog products including Dialog's next generation platform development. Prior to joining ProQuest/Dialog, Julie was Vice President for Strategy and Organizational Development at Borders Group, and spent 15 years with Borders' Retail Technology division, in which she worked extensively in developing customer-facing, web-based technology tools. As a senior strategic leader, Julie has deep experience in planning and leading business change. Enterprise-driven, she leverages skills in business, technology and organizational development to bring focus to fundamental issues, build high-performing collaborative teams, achieve business goals and implement sustainable practices. Julie graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree and holds an MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she is based.
Morten Nicholaisen directs and manages sales and customer relationships worldwide. He has concentrated his career in sales and management and has a long, outstanding record of achievement. Morten rejoined Dialog in July 2008 as Executive Director of North American Sales and moved into the role of Vice President in January 2009. In the previous two years, he served as a strategic advisor to both a technology company and a global player in employer branding. His experience in the online industry spans 14 years, ranging from co-founder of M.A.I.D in Scandinavia to various senior roles at both Dialog and Thomson Reuters.
Libby Trudell directs Dialog's global marketing team, responsible for product marketing, pricing, communications and sales support, plus Quantum2 and the Graduate Education Program. She has previously managed a variety of functions at Dialog including product management, strategic planning, information professional market development and customer services. Prior to Dialog, she worked with several consortia serving the library community, providing customer support, training and marketing for OCLC, RLIN and other library automation products. She started her career at the Massachusetts Bureau of Library Extension, supporting administration for the LSCA program. She has served in a number of leadership roles in Special Libraries Association, including as a member of the Board of Directors, and was recently recognized as an SLA Fellow. Libby holds a bachelor's degree from Tufts University and an MLIS from Simmons. She is based in Sunnyvale, California.
Eddie Watkins directs platform management for Dialog's key product lines, Dialog and DataStar. During his tenure, he has led numerous successful product launches and projects, including DialogLink 5 and DialogClassic Web. Eddie's experience in the information industry spans 11 years, working in public, academic, and corporate libraries before joining Dialog. Eddie graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina Central University, where he earned his master of library science degree with a concentration in special/corporate libraries. He is currently a MBA candidate at East Carolina University. Eddie is based in Morrisville, North Carolina.
Dr. Roger K. Summit is the founder and chairman emeritus of Dialog. An expert in information systems design, Roger conducted pioneering work beginning in 1962 while at the Lockheed Corporation that led to the creation of Dialog, the first-of-its-kind online information retrieval system. Under Roger’s direction, various versions of Dialog, called RECON, were installed in the 1960s for such government agencies as NASA, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and the European Space Research Organization (now the European Space Agency). Dialog is associated with several "firsts" in information retrieval milestones:
Following the commercial launch of Dialog in 1972, Roger held positions as manager, director, and president and chief executive officer of the business. He has also held respected positions on national and international advisory boards and in professional associations, and has received numerous awards. Roger has published over 100 papers and journal articles based on his knowledge of and experience with online information services. In addition to his 40 years of involvement with Dialog, Roger has also served as a communications officer in the U.S. Navy (1952–1955), an associate professor in the Graduate School of Business at San Jose State University (1963–1965), a visiting professor at Chico State College in Chico, Calif. (1980, 1984), and as a lecturer at both Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, Calif. (1984) and the University of Michigan (1990, 1991). He is widely published and spoken of in the field of information sciences, and has been a member of several national committees dealing with information policy. Roger holds a doctorate in management science, a master’s in business administration and a bachelor’s in psychology, all from Stanford University in Stanford, Calif.
